Ackee and Saltfish Dish

Ackee and Saltfish Dish

The name is fitting especially since the food taste like it was delivered from the Heavens itself. For the first time ever I tried an Ackee and Salt-fish dish that made the taste buds dance in my mouth, oh man was I blown away. I'm sure the neighboring tables could hear every "umm" and "awww" that followed after every bite. Angel of Harlem was introduced to me by my lovely cousin Fitz who's a frequent visitor and foodie like myself. Fitz, Eric and I decided to pay the American Caribbean cuisine restaurant a visit this past Sunday for brunch. Although I've visited Angel of Harlem before initially for their delicious cocktails, it was amazing to come back for the food and cocktails together. From the second entree we ordered to the sangria's and rum punch we downed, the upbeat music and lively atmosphere made the vibes at Angel of Harlem endless. As I continue to try more restaurants in and around Harlem this one can easily be listed as one of my favorites thus far. I can't wait to savor more dishes on the menu for my next visit. When in Harlem stop by Angel of Harlem for an unforgettable fare.

You can count on me to find the cutest little cafes around the city. Whatever your heart desires a sweet treat, a cup of Joe, or a bit of tea time I've got you covered with the coolest cafe digs. Per usual, my search for a new cafe begin in the AM as I've heard of Flora Restaurant (a seafood focused restaurant) I was surprised to discover they've opened a sister cafe shop right before the entrance of the restaurant. Both Flora Cafe and Restaurant is situated one level under the Met Breuer. The modern lofty space exudes chicness and creates the ultimate airy space. I enjoyed the green tea and almond cookie during my visit. I was tempted to dine at Flora Bar/Restaurant but decided to save that day for a sexy lunch date instead. Haha!

Egg & Avocado Toast For Breakfast

Patricia Darrabie

avocado toast for breakfast

When breakfast looks and taste as yummy as this, who would want to skip it? I'm a sucker for anything avocado related. I add avocado where ever I can in my meals and breakfast is easily the best way to get that avocado lover's fix!

I grabbed a slice of multi-grain toast, cooked up an egg and sliced an avocado. Apart from avocado's, I enjoy a handful of cherries whenever possible. The benefits are amazing! Cherries are said to aid in restless night, fight cancer, Alzheimer and much more.

I wanted this breakfast to pack a punch so I blended up mixed berries, spinach and almond milk for a smoothie. I also topped the berry smoothie off with chia seeds( another supper food, read it here) for maximum energy during my day!

What do you think of this breakfast mix? Would you try it? Comment below. :-)

Olympia Wine Bar- Dumbo, Brooklyn

If you like to explore neighborhoods as much as I do then you're probably out searching for the next hip wine bar too and a great happy hour to follow suit. I came across this cozy little gem of a bar while out in Dumbo doing my usual stroll. Olympia Wine Bar was the perfect stop to meet and catch up with my fellow gal pal. It had a nice ambiance and charm that I always look for when dining. We indulged in a delicious cheese board and sipped on wine of course because what's wine without a nice selection of cheese. So next time your in and around Dumbo definitely give this place a try for a nice intermediate before dinner.

They are located at: DUMBO, Brooklyn, at 54 Jay Street, at the corner of Jay & Water Streets, just two blocks from the York Street F subway station.

Bono Trattoria

Patricia Darrabie

Since my cousin and I are always on the hunt for the next cool restaurant to try, we collectively decided to find an Italian place to eat. We chose to try out Bono since their menu looked quite appealing. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant was warm and inviting. I guess it helps that they have a gigantic pizza oven in the middle of the restaurant. Ha! We decided to sit at the bar and ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana to start with as we had built up quite an appetite. Not very long later our Parmigiana arrived and it was an appetizer I could have certainly done without. Skip it!  After a few more looks at the menu we then proceeded to order our entrees. My cousin ordered the Grilled Salmon which comes prepared in lemon, caper-butter sauce & a side of sauteed brussel sprouts. I ordered the seared stripped Sea bass Fillet which comes with shrimp, green pea puree & lemon. Along with our entrees we added two sides, the sauteed spinach and the roasted Yukon potatoes.  Both our entrees were phenomenal and I must say the Sea Bass was one of the best I've ever had. My sweet tooth was at an all time high so I decided to order their red velvet cheese cake. One of my best life choices to date. I kid but it was certainly superb and satisfied every taste bud. One could say that Bono Trattoria is definitely worth the trek uptown!

Cheri

Patricia Darrabie

Recently I visited Cheri in Harlem to have brunch with my Harlem Fashion Week team. And what a delicious brunch it was. Cheri served up a beautiful plate of French toast, scrambled eggs, gourmet sausages,  roasted garlic potatoes, and a delicious mixed green salad. If your looking for a French dining room then this is the place for you with its eclectic decor that makes the place feels super cozy. They even offer a lovely garden seating area where you can relax and take in some fresh air. I definitely give Cheri two thumbs up!
